Owen Hargreaves believes Sir Alex Ferguson would have benched Manchester United star Fred for a month after Everton performance
Speaking to Premier League Productions (h/t Express), Owen Hargreaves explained that Sir Alex Ferguson would have benched Manchester United ace Fred for a month after his poor Everton performance.
The Red Devils dropped points for a second consecutive week in the Premier League on Saturday as Everton held the hosts at Old Trafford. One load off of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s mind would have been Anthony Martial scoring his first goal of the season, however, there was little to laud after that.
The equalizer to Martial’s goal came in the second half after Demarai Gray completely shrugged off Fred in a duel that the Englishman should never have won in the first place. The 28-year-old failed to stop the counter-attack twice, and the ball ended up at the feet of Andros Townsend, who was not going to miss a clear sight on goal.
Former Manchester United ace Owen Hargreaves has now blasted Fred for his performance and has revealed what Sir Alex Ferguson would have done, had he still been at the helm. Hargreaves told Premier League Productions (h/t Express):
“Never ever, not in a million years [should that goal be allowed to happen]. That’s what you get paid for, that’s why you’re there, that’s your job to stop that goal. I would’ve taken that personally. He’s (Fred) got two cracks at it, and both [times] he loses.
“It can’t happen. Sir Alex wouldn’t forgive you for that, you wouldn’t have played for a month, seriously. He has to win those tackles. And if he loses it, you foul him, you bring him down.”

The Old Trafford outfit failed to score a winner by the end of the game and now sit 2 points off the top of the league table. Given that the club’s run of fixtures are only going to get tougher after the international break, a victory against the Toffees would have boded well for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer & co.
