Manchester United joined by Manchester City in the race to sign Napoli forward Victor Osimhen
According to Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Express), Manchester United have been joined by Manchester City in the pursuit of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.
The 22-year-old has been incredible for Napoli since making the move to Italy from LOSC Lille two years ago. While the Nigerian only managed to knock 10 goals in the back of the net last season, he has started this season in red-hot form.
Osimhen has managed to score 6 goals in as many games for the Serie A club this season while he has also racked up an assist. His two goals against Leicester City in the Europa League, in particular, were magnificent.
Thus, it is no surprise that the centre-forward has a couple of suitors, including Manchester United. The Red Devils would be aware of the fact that Edinson Cavani will be out of contract next summer while Ronaldo will turn 37 before the end of the current season. Additionally, they are also said to be willing to let Anthony Martial leave in January itself.
While Erling Haaland is said to be a priority for the Old Trafford outfit, Osimhen makes a good alternative. At 22, the youngster is only a year elder to the Norwegian while he has also sufficient experience of playing at the top.
However, United may not be the only club eyeing the Nigeran as a viable alternative since Manchester City have also joined the race, according to Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Express).
