Manchester United superstar Marcus Rashford has urged UK Government to axe Universal Credit cut
According to Guardian, Manchester United hero Marcus Rashford has urged the UK Government to scrap their plan of cutting the Universal Credit on October 6th, 2021.
The £20 boost was vital for many poor families to secure food during the Covid-19 pandemic. But the Government now plans to axe that credit as the United Kingdom population gradually returns to normal life.
But Man United forward Marcus Rashford has urged voters to send in messages to their MPs regarding the issue as he rightly believes that such a cut would throw many families into abject poverty.
He said:
“Instead of removing vital support, we should be focusing on developing a long-term roadmap out of this child hunger pandemic. On 6 October, millions lose a lifeline. It’s a move that Child Poverty Action Group says will raise child poverty to one in three.”
Rashford’s crusade continues
The 23-year-old Englishman famously forced Boris Johnson to take a U-turn last year regarding free school meals, and has now asked the Government to increase the eligibility criteria in order to include more and more vulnerable families in the fray.
The right to food is a basic human right for people living anywhere in the world regardless of their physical or psychological attributes. Rashford has played a massive part in putting pressure on the Government to simply do the job they were elected to do.
Humanity has very little to be proud of considering where we are today. The world we refer to as ‘civilized’, ‘progressed’, or ‘advanced’ is a world where 11 people die each minute due to hunger.
