Villarreal striker Gerard Moreno doubt for Manchester United tie due to injury
According to foreign outlet El Periodico Mediterraneo (h/t Stretty News), Manchester United have been handed a potential boost as Villarreal striker, Gerard Moreno, could miss their Champions League tie this week due to an injury.
Football-Espana.net reported last week that the striker had to pull out of the Yellow Submarines’ squad against Mallorca due to an injury to his right hamstring. And it seems that the problem has not resolved itself.
The 29-year-old also missed the clash against Real Madrid this weekend and hopefully for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Man United, sits out of the UEFA Champions League group stage tie this week.
The Red Devils have put themselves in a tough spot after a 2-1 away defeat to Young Boys in gameweek 1. Villarreal and Atalanta aren’t pushovers and the club would need to ensure they get points on the board as soon as possible.
No Moreno
Moreno has become one of the most lethal strikers in Europe recently. The former Espanyol star netted 30 times in all competitions last season, including in the UEFA Europa League final win over Manchester United.
United will have injury concerns of their own. Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire both hobbled off in the defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday in a 1-0 loss at Old Trafford.
Dean Henderson and Phil Jones, meanwhile, have made their way back to the squad after their respective spells out with fitness issues. But given the consequences of a defeat, Solskjaer is highly likely to start his strongest team available.

As for Moreno, we wish him a speedy and painless recovery, but perhaps one that comes after Villarreal complete their trip to Old Trafford this week.
