Manchester United enter the fray for Villarreal star Gerard Moreno
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t Caught Offside), Manchester United are set to battle Barcelona for Villarreal star Gerard Moreno.
The 29-year-old made his name at the senior level with Villarreal before enjoying spells at Mallorca (on loan) and Espanyol. Now back with the Yellow Subamrines, his stock has only risen last season.
Moreno scored 30 goals and assisted 11 more in just 46 appearances as the club won their first-ever major trophy. Unai Emery’s men ended the season on a high and Moreno played a huge part in that success.
United will be familiar with Moreno having faced off against him in the Europa League final. The 29-year-old opened the scoring on the night and was a thorn amongst the United backline.
Having broken our hearts last season, he could very well the solution for us upfront in the upcoming campaign. Although Edinson Cavani’s contract extension gave us some respite, bringing in another striker should be seen as essential.
La Liga champions Atletico Madrid are also interested and are keeping tabs on Moreno’s progress.
As of yet, there is no indication as to what Villarreal are seeking for Moreno’s services. Given how they have dug in their heels over Pau Torres, it is fair to say the striker won’t come cheap.
Whether the Red Devils are really interested or just testing the waters remains to be seen.

Moreno’s performances have also seen him get called up for the Spanish national side. He was part of Luis Enrique’s final squad that will take part in this summer’s Euros.
It is fair to say that another strong showing in the competition will only see more sides line up for his signature.
