Manchester United fans react as late Bruno Fernandes penalty miss costs undefeated PL start against Aston Villa

Manchester United went into the game against Aston Villa on a high of being undefeated in the Premier League this season, but a late Bruno Fernandes penalty miss meant they had to walk away with nothing.

The Red Devils were on the front foot for most of the game. Paul Pogba started out on the left flank, as he did for a few games last season, while Cristiano Ronaldo led the attack again.

Jadon Sancho was benched after a poor few weeks in English football’s first division, and remained an unused substitute. The game seemed to be going nowhere until the last few minutes before the full-time whistle.

Kourtney Hause and Edinson Cavani were involved in two decisive moments. The Aston Villa centre-back first headed the ball into the net 2 minutes from regular time.

It was the Uruguayan striker who was supposed to mark him after coming on a substitute earlier in the game, but Hause lost his man to score with a powerful header past David de Gea.

Cavani seemed to have redeemed himself in the dying embers of the game as his flicked header struck Hause on the arm. United were awarded a penalty, and with both Bruno and Ronaldo on the pitch, fans were wondering who was going to take it.

The attacking midfielder took command of the situation but skied the ball so far off target it may just have landed in Villa Park. After the game, Man United fans were split in their opinion regarding who should have taken the spot-kick.
