Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer reluctant to heap criticism on Anthony Martial
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has refused to call out Anthony Martial after the Frenchman failed to make an impact against West ham United.
The 25-year-old has struggled to impress over the last few months and showed little improvement last night against the Hammers. Martial, making his second start of the season played the whole ninety minutes as United crashed out of the Carabao Cup.
With both Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani unavailable, the onus was on Martial to lead the line. It is fair to say he was amongst our least impressive players on the night.
Speaking after the game, Solskjaer refrained from blaming the Frenchman and instead insisted that the time was not ripe for a personal inquisition. He, in fact, went on to add that Martial was not worse off than any other player on the field.
“I don’t think it’s right to go into individual performances.”
The 25-year-old has scored just twice in his last 24 games, both goals coming in our 9-0 demolition of Southampton last season. Despite his loss of form, Solskjaer has indicated that Martial will keep working on his games and will be afforded chances to impress.
“He’ll keep working and get his chances.”
United created a number of chances but were unable to find a way past the Hammers defence. For all the talent that we could put out onto the pitch, the lack of imagination and clinical finishing was visible.
While one can understand Solskjaer’s reluctance to call out a player, he cannot afford to ignore what was a largely invisible outing by the Frenchman.

Martial has been afforded enough chances to stake his claim as a major first-team player. It may be time to call an end to his time at the club unless he experiences a drastic change in form. Solskjaer refusing to call a spade as one is not doing himself or the club any favours.
