Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp explains why he did not like Manchester United re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo

According to an interview done with Sky Sports (h/t Manchester Evening News), Jurgen Klopp provided an explanation on how he was surprised that Manchester United re-signed Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 36-year-old completed a deadline-day move back to Old Trafford from Juventus as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer concluded his transfer business for the summer window. Ronaldo was United’s fourth signing of the summer after Tom Heaton, Jadon Sancho & Raphael Varane.

The Portuguese has already started his second stint at the club in grand fashion as he was picked for the game against Newcastle United on Saturday. Not that it surprised a lot of people, but Ronaldo capped off his ‘2nd debut’ for the Red Devils, by scoring 2 goals and firing United to the top of the Premier League table.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was asked in an interview with Sky Sports how he felt about the Merseyside club’s arch-rivals signing the 36-year-old. He said (h/t Manchester Evening News):

“Am I happy that he is at United? No, I can’t say that.”

Klopp also expressed his ‘surprise’ when he heard the Portuguese wanted to leave the Old Lady.

“I was surprised, not about United, him going in there in the end, but when I first heard the rumours about him wanting to leave Juventus.

“He was going to City and I thought ‘oh, that could be fun for United’ and then, obviously, United stepped in and did it. It’s all fine. It’s a free world and they can do what they want.”

While it would have been a blow for the Red Devils to had their club legend signed for Manchester City, they would have been thankful for completing the deal when they did. As per the Premier League schedule, Ronaldo will face Klopp’s Liverpool on the 24th of October, which could certainly be a mouth-watering clash.
