Manchester United might have been pipped in the race to sign Erling Haaland next summer
According to Diario Madridista (h/t Express), Manchester United have been dealt a blow in the race to sign Erling Haaland as the Norwegian’s current club, Borussia Dortmund have a verbal pact with Real Madrid.
The 21-year-old, who has amazed everybody in world football since he arrived at Borussia Dortmund in January 2020, has been in incredible form. The Norwegian has scored a ridiculous 63 goals in 64 games for the German outfit and was a vital part of helping the club secure a 3rd place finish in the league table.
Moreover, Haaland was also influential in Dortmund’s run to the UEFA Champions League quarter-final, where they lost to eventual finalists Manchester City.
The striker’s performances last season attracted a lot of interest from several clubs this summer, including the likes of Paris Saint Germain, Manchester City, and Manchester United, according to Diario Madridista (h/t Express).
United, who have nearly 7 forwards in their ranks, namely Cristiano Ronaldo, Edinson Cavani, Jesse Lingard, Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial, Jadon Sancho, and Marcus Rashford in their ranks, could be keen to add another centre-forward to the mix.
Edinson Cavani’s contract is set to expire next summer, while Jesse Lingard could also follow suit as he recently rejected a contract extension at the club. Moreover, given the fact that Ronaldo will turn 37 next year, Haaland could serve as the Old Trafford outfit’s long-term option through the middle.
While that could be the ideal dream, the Red Devils have now suffered a blow in their pursuit of the 21-year-old Bundesliga goal machine.
