Trevor Sinclair confused over Jesse Lingard decision to stay at Manchester United this summer
According to an interview done with talkSPORT (h/t Metro), Former Manchester City player Trevor Sinclair has questioned the ambitions of Manchester United fringe star Jesse Lingard.
The 28-year-old, who fell down the pecking order at Old Trafford last term, completed a mid-season loan deal to West Ham, where he was terrific. The Englishman scored 9 goals and provided 5 assists in 16 appearances under former Manchester United manager David Moyes.
Lingard helped the Hammers secure a 6th place finish in the table, ensuring Europa League qualification. Thus, the East London club tried to secure a deal in the summer for the winger, but a move never materialized as the Englishman wanted to stay at Old Trafford and prove his quality to his Norwegian boss.
However, the 28-year-old has recently rejected a contract extension at the Manchester-based club as he wants assurances of his game-time. This has led to Former Premier League winger Trevor Sinclair questioning why the winger did not make the move to West Ham this year itself. Sinclair told talkSPORT (h/t Metro):
“If he doesn’t get given the assurances and signs the new deal, then he’s not as ambitious as I’d like him to be. I am confused, why he didn’t join West Ham permanently? He was loved there; he was the main man. He played once for Manchester United last season, he played 16 times for West Ham. He scored goals, got back into the England squad, why wouldn’t he want to sign for them?”

United, who currently boast the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Mason Greenwood, Edinson Cavani, Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial, and Marcus Rashford in their forward roles, could find it hard to give consistent game-time to Lingard, who has only made an off the bench cameo for the club this season.
Thus, it remains where Lingard will be playing his football at the start of next season.
