West Ham coach Stuart Pearce believes Manchester United ace Jesse Lingard is too good a player to sit on the bench
According to an interview with talkSPORT (h/t Evening Standard), West Ham United coach Stuart Pearce believes that Manchester United ace Jesse Lingard should have left the club this summer.
Lingard, who recently scored twice for the Three Lions in the World Cup qualifier against Andorra, has not been afforded enough opportunities at United. The 28-year-old initially fell out of favour in the first half of last season, courtesy of which he sought out a move to West Ham on a mid-season loan deal.
The Englishman joined forces with former Manchester United manager David Moyes and the winger came back into form. Lingard went on to register 9 goals and 5 assists in 16 appearances for the Hammers as he led them to a 6th placed finish in the League table.
The 28-year-old was touted for a move back to West Ham this summer but the London club failed to meet United’s asking price. Now, West Ham coach Stuart Pearce has weighed in on the winger’s situation. He told talkSPORT (h/t Evening Standard):
“He has missed the opportunity to leave United in this transfer window. He can reassess his situation come January once again and decide whether there is an opportunity to move clubs or whatever. He holds the cards. The most important thing for him at the moment is his football.
“He is too good a player to be sat on the outside of it not playing, to be honest. He is at an age where he needs to be playing now.”

Lingard might just leave the Manchester-based club on a free transfer next season as he recently rejected a contract extension at the club. Thus, the Englishman is set for an unpredictable future, and only time will tell where he plays his football at the end of the transfer window next summer.
