Transfer News: Manchester United are persistent on a move for Yves Bissouma in January

According to the Metro (h/t Express), Manchester United are one of the three clubs in the race to sign Yves Bissouma next year.

The Red Devils, who already possess the likes of Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Donny van de Beek, Nemanja Matic, Scott McTominay, and Fred in their squad, could add to their ranks in January.

Paul Pogba is in the final year of his contract, and there is no certainty on if he will sign a new one this year. Nemanja Matic’s current contract will expire in 2023, while van de Beek has failed to get consistent game-time under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

All these factors could play a role in the Old Trafford outfit stepping up their interest in the Mali international in the winter transfer window. Graham Potter insisted at the start of the current season that he does not know the future of Bissouma. He said (h/t The Express):

“I’ve been speaking about Yves Bissouma for quite some time and he’s still here. That’s all I can say on it. I can’t control the future, I don’t know what’s going to happen essentially – that’s the beauty of life and football”.

The 25-year-old, who signed for the Seagulls in 2018, has been an incredible player for the club over the last three years and has been a crucial part of the club, helping them stay in the Premier League since then.

Moreover, given the Mali international’s quality and his Premier League experience, United could be completing a clever coup by signing him. However, they are set to face competition from both Liverpool and Arsenal for the player’s signature.

While all three clubs will be competing, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be hoping that United convert their potential interest in the 25-year-old into a formalized offer and add the midfielder to their ranks.
