Trevor Sinclair surprised Manchester United did not make a move for Kalvin Philipps this summer
According to an interview done with Talk Sport (h/t Inside Futbol), Former Man City & QPR player Trevor Sinclair has questioned why Manchester United failed to consider a move for Kalvin Philipps this summer.
The 25-year-old, who has been a part of the Leeds United set up since 2014, had an incredible debut season in the Premier League last year. The Englishman made 31 appearances in all competitions for Leeds, including featuring 29 times in the Premier League.
The central midfielder managed 3 goal contributions in the process and helped the Lilywhites secure a 9th place finish in the league, just 3 points away from the European qualification.
However, Philipps’ performances warranted him a place in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the Euros and the 25-year-old went on to feature in most games for the Three Lions as he helped them reach the final of the competition.
Given that Manchester United were linked with several midfielders throughout the summer, former player Trevor Sinclair is surprised that the Old Trafford outfit did not make a move for the Englishman. He told Talk Sport (h/t Inside Futbol):
“I was actually quite surprised that Manchester United did not have a little look at him (Philipps) because when you start looking at that holding midfield role, and you have got Fred and [Scott] McTominay, [Nemanja] Matic”.
“For me, if they have got that position right, they will have a chance at really competing for the Premier League.”

Sinclair also felt that the 25-year-old will ‘leave’ Leeds United if the Peacocks fail to push for a Top 4 place this season. Although the Red Devils have quite a few midfielders in their ranks, an additional defensive midfielder with proven quality in the league and on the international stage could have boosted their squad tremendously.
Thus, it remains to be seen whether United’s existing lot of midfielders can help the club achieve glory this year.
