Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba broke a historic Premier League record in the game against Southampton
According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United ace, Paul Pogba has become the quickest player in the history of the Premier League to register five assists in a league season.
The 28-year-old midfielder provided four assists in the club’s season opener against Leeds United last weekend and became only the seventh player in Premier League history to set up four goals in one game.
However, the Frenchman has now gone a level up and has broken a Premier League record. The midfielder set up the equalizer yesterday as United fought back against the Saints at St.Marys after going a goal down in the first half an hour.
Pogba, like last weekend, was instrumental in the equalizer as he completed a quick give-and-go with Bruno Fernandes before sliding the ball to Greenwood, who equalized emphatically. While the Red Devils failed to grab the winner, the 28-year-old did become the quickest player in the history of the English league to provide five assists.
OptaJoe’s official Twitter account also confirmed the statistic after the game. It said (h/t Manchester Evening News):
“5 – Paul Pogba is the first player in Premier League history to register five assists after his team’s first two games of a single season. Inventive”.

The Frenchman has looked in sublime form since the start of the season while he has also acted as a great professional despite the uncertainty over his future. The 28-year-old is in the last year of his contract at the club and is yet to sign an extension, with PSG and Real Madrid circling around to sign the player on a free transfer next year.
However, after yesterday’s performance, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and co would be hoping to keep the player at Old Trafford as long as possible.
