Manchester United could move for Robert Lewandowski on certain conditions

According to an interview done by Duncan Castles on the Transfer Window Podcast (h/t The Express), Manchester United could sign Robert Lewandowski if Kylian Mbappe does decide to join Spanish giants Real Madrid.

United, who have completed the signings of Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane this summer, might need to sign a forward next year. Edinson Cavani, who is the club’s current centre-forward, will be out of contract next summer, leaving the club with the job of finding another striker.

According to journalist Duncan Castles, United were in the market looking for a striker this summer and are still keen on finding one. He also explained how the funds to sign a striker could be available through a ‘chain of events’, starting with Kylian Mbappe joining Real Madrid.

Manchester United target Robert Lewandowski could be open to a new challenge after a hugely successful seven years at Bayern Munich.

Making a reference to Lewandowski’s situation, he told the Transfer Window Podcast (h/t The Express):

“Manchester United we know long term are in the market for a centre-forward. They’ve retained Edinson Cavani for this season, but there was a point they were considering bringing a new striker in, and that’s still in their plans.

“A replacement comes in, you could see PSG deciding if they lose Mbappe that the player to replace him with is Paul Pogba, who is running down his contract and is a French national team player so you get a new star Frenchman.”

Castles also explained how the Manchester-based outfit will then have the ‘required funds’ to sign their targets. Thus, United could then utilize the money earned from the Pogba sale to sign a forward, and given that Robert Lewandowski could be available this summer, they can target the Polish international.

Lewandowski has scored a ridiculous 297 goals in 331 games for Bayern Munich, and the Red Devils could make a blockbuster signing if they manage to secure his services.

Although there is no certainty on whether the Red Devils will target the forward, given the Pole’s talent, it should be a no-brainer for the Manchester-based outfit.
