Transfer News: Manchester United to join Chelsea in the race for Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski
According to the Daily Star, Manchester United are set to join Chelsea in the race for Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski with the Polish superstar wanting to leave his current club ahead of next season.
Lewandowski joined Bayern Munich from Borussia Dortmund in 2014 and has since then gone on to cement his status as one of the best goal scorers in the world. Over the past three seasons, the Polish striker has produced scary numbers.
The 33-year-old has played 46 times for the Bundesliga club this season scoring 50 goals and providing seven assists across all competitions. The veteran striker is entering his last year of contract next season and wants to leave this summer.
Barcelona are said to be the front-runners in the pursuit of the talented Polish striker and now the Red Devils are also set to enter the race for the talented striker.
A tough negotiation?
Anyone who has been following this saga in recent weeks will know that Lewandowski’s heart is set on Barcelona and it will be difficult for Manchester United to convince him.
United have Cristiano Ronaldo but as good as the Portuguese superstar is, at 37, it is impossible to imagine the former Juventus striker playing at the top level for very long. With Edinson Cavani leaving the club, United would definitely be looking for a replacement.
Anthony Martial is set to return to Old Trafford but it is still not clear as to what kind of a role he will have, if any. under Erik ten Hag. The French striker has flattered to deceive at his time at the club in recent seasons and was far from impressive at Sevilla.
However, the Polish superstar seems closer to a move to the Spanish club and United will not have it easy in convincing the player to move to Old Trafford. It remains to be seen how the English club goes about this situation.

This might just seem like a rumour as of now. If it develops into something serious though, it is an interesting story to keep an eye out for. The likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Cavani, and Ronaldo have shown over the years that age is just a number, after all.
