Manchester United are willing to sign Ruben Neves on a discount

According to the Manchester Evening News (h/t The Express), Manchester United would be open to a move for Ruben Neves this summer, but on a discounted fee.

The Red Devils, who have already signed the likes of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund and Raphael Varane from Real Madrid for a combined value of more than £100million, could still sign a midfielder before the end of the month, with Ruben Neves a prime prospect.

United have had their eye on the Portuguese midfielder this summer but are not too impressed with Wolves’ £40million valuation of him. The Red Devils are eyeing a knockdown fee for the 24-year-old, as they look to add more quality to their ranks.

The Manchester-based outfit already possess the likes of Scott McTominay, Fred, Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Donny van de Beek, and Nemanja Matic in midfield, but could need reinforcements due to a couple of reasons.

There is a lot of uncertainty regarding the future of Paul Pogba, who has entered into the final year of his contract.

While the Frenchman could stay at the club this summer, he can enter into pre-contract agreements with foreign clubs in January. That could allow him to leave next summer on a free transfer – a deal PSG and Real Madrid are interested in orchestrating for the 28-year-old.

Additionally, Nemanja Matic’s contract will be up in two years, potentially leaving the club short on midfield options in the near future. Ruben Neves can act as an able deputy as a central midfielder as well as a defensive midfielder, which would bode well for United.

Neves, who has racked up 177 appearances in his time at Wolves, could, thus, make the switch to Manchester this summer, if the Red Devils do manage to secure the player’s services on a discounted fee.
