Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hits back at Jurgen Klopp over spending accusations

According to The Mirror, Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hit back at Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp for questioning the club’s expenses.

The Reds boss had admitted earlier this month that he was unaware as to how the likes of Manchester City, United and Chelsea got big-money moves done in spite of the financial crisis in the sport. The Red Devils went big on Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane without really having to sell any first-team player to fund it.

Solskjaer has reminded Klopp that United as one of the biggest clubs in the world have the resources needed to fund major moves in the transfer window.

“We are a well run club. We do have a lot of fans out there and we do have good sponsorship deals.”

The Norwegian believes how each club is run is up to them. He believes the Red Devils are well placed to approach their business as they see fit. As long as it works for them, it is not anyone’s business to question it.

“How other clubs run their clubs is up to them. There are different models at different clubs.”

Solskjaer also went on to add that despite United’s financial muscle, he has had to take no for an answer several times. We for one are curious to know which players were involved in these conversations.

“As a manager you want more and more money to spend – but I have heard ‘no’ a few times.”

City to feel the pinch of Solskjaer’s efforts?

The United boss also took the opportunity to make a dig at City who recently broke the British transfer record for Jack Grealish. Solskjaer claims he has switched to an electric car because he doesn’t want to put more money in the pockets of City’s Abu Dhabi-based owners.

Every penny matters after all. One cannot accuse the United boss of lacking a sense of humour.

Ironically enough Klopp’s original statement said little about United. The Liverpool boss openly admitted of being unaware as to how the Red Devils got their deals done.

There was little need for Solskjaer to rise to the provocation when none existed.
