Team News: Manchester United summer signing Jadon Sancho may have to wait for debut start

According to The Athletic (h/t The Metro), Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to start Daniel James ahead of Jadon Sancho against Southampton.

United, who completed the signing of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund this summer, are not going to provide the Englishman with a start just yet.

The 21-year-old came off the bench during United’s season opener against Leeds United, where the Red Devils ran riot and won the game 5-1. Although Sancho did not contribute to any of those goals, he got some considerable minutes under his belt.

The Englishman, who was a part of the England squad that reached the final of the Euros, has come back a little ‘rustier’ than some of his other England teammates and might need to get to full-match fitness before he is handed a start in United colours.

To that end, Solskjaer handed Sancho a start during their closed-doors match against Burnley earlier this week, and the 21-year-old racked up a decent 60 minutes under his belt. However, the Norwegian has decided to be a little more ‘patient’ with the winger, courtesy of which the Englishman will have to do with a place on the bench on the weekend.

However, Sancho could be called upon as a substitute later in the game. Daniel James, who is set to start instead of the Englishman on the weekend, is completely fit and is ready to start the game on Sunday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Jadon Sancho ease some burden from Bruno Fernandes' shoulders at Manchester United.
