17-year-old English starlet free to open talks with Manchester United regarding potential move

Transfer News: Thierry Small can now open talks with Manchester United regarding a summer switch

According to Football Insider (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United have been handed a massive boost in their efforts to land Everton starlet Thierry Small.

The youngster is eligible to sign a professional contract after turning 17 last week. One of the best players in the Everton academy, he has garnered interest from a number of Europe’s top teams.

The likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Man United among others are all keeping tabs on his progress. The Premier League have now confirmed that the player is free to talk to other clubs regarding a potential move.

The left-back has been at Everton since 2016, progressing through the club’s youth ranks. Talks with Everton regarding a contract does not appear to be going smoothly with both sides now involved in a stalemate.

Small did not help matters much by not turning up for pre-season training and has instead been doing so on his own. It now remains to be seen if his days on Merseyside are numbered.

While he could yet make a u-turn and stay on at Goodison, the chances of that currently seem bleak. The Premier League’s admission has now paved the way for interested clubs to make their move. Given the plethora of sides keen, there should be a barrage of offers for the teenager’s services.

Small is held in high regard at Everton and became the club’s youngest ever player following his senior debut last January. While he has not returned to the first XI since there is little to suggest that the player will not reach his potential under the right guidance.

Adding Small to the list will give us yet another player who could come into the club’s youth ranks and explode onto the first team. Old Trafford is just as good a place as any for the youngster to continue his development.
