Transfer News: Manchester United to battle Arsenal for Thierry Small

According to transfer news from Metro, Manchester United are all set to go up against Arsenal for the signing of Thierry Small. The highly-rated Everton teenager could pass up on his first professional contract at Everton and choose to move to another club.

Just 16 years of age, Small became the youngest Everton player when he appeared in the FA Cup win against Sheffield Wednesday in January. Since then, a host of clubs have kept their eyes on the youngster.

While Arsenal and United are the two biggest names to be after him, there are several other clubs such as Leeds United, Brighton and Brentford also after him. Apparently, the young full-back is frustrated at the lack of first-team action being afforded to him.

Small does look like a player with good potential but United already have two standout players in his position. Luke Shaw is arguably one of the best in the league this season and Alex Telles is an able deputy capable of becoming a regular.

The chances that Small chooses to join United look minimal given he would not get first-team football, something that he wants. In any other scenario, it would have been a no-brainer to go after the Everton starlet.
