Transfer News: Manchester United target Jude Bellingham eyed by Chelsea

Eurosport’s Dean Jones, speaking on the Football Terrace podcast (h/t Express), claims that Chelsea are eyeing a deal for Jude Bellingham, who is a long-standing target for Manchester United.

The report mentions that the Red Devils have monitored the 18-year-old for a while. In light of that, Chelsea’s apparent inclusion in a transfer race would certainly be unwelcome news for the Red Devils.

Bellingham has taken big strides since joining Borussia Dortmund from Birmingham City. Still just 18, the teenager has a bright future ahead of him – and Jones mentions that Chelsea may look to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

“I know he’s [Bellingham] excited about the project there [at Dortmund] and he’s definitely getting better as a player. But Chelsea do also have an eye on Jude Bellingham. If, for whatever reason, Declan Rice doesn’t work out.”

Race for Jude

The one positive for United fans in the aforementioned statement is that Chelsea’s priority is seemingly Declan Rice. Bellingham’s price tag could also be lower than Rice’s £100million valuation by West Ham United.

There is barely any debate to be had about Bellingham’s capabilities. A team doesn’t retire a jersey number for a 17-year-old if they don’t believe he has a bright future ahead.

Neither does a big club like the Black and Yellow agree to pay £25million in initial fees for a teenager without seeing something special in him. His prime years are still ahead of him and he can be one of the continent’s top midfielders.

More Manchester United News:

Wherever he ends up next – if he ever leaves Signal Iduna Park – United fans would be hoping that the talented Englishman’s destination turns out to be Old Trafford. Only time will if that ever comes true, though.
