Arsenal have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Kieran Trippier this summer

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal have made a bid to sign Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid this summer amidst interest from Manchester United.

The Gunners are trying to sign a replacement for Hector Bellerin, who is set to leave the club as there is interest from both Inter Milan as well as Bayer Leverkusen for the Spaniard.

However, this would be a blow for United, who have been trying to secure Trippier’s signature all summer. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on bolstering his defensive options this summer, while he also wants to provide some cover and competition to the current right-back in Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Moreover, with back-up left-back Alex Telles out injured until September and Brandon Williams nearing a loan move, the Red Devils would also need cover for Luke Shaw at left-back, albeit for a short time.

Trippier’s versatility makes him a great option for United, however, according to The Sun (h/t Daily Mail), the Red Devils have only offered £20million for the full-back, which is a long way off from Atletico Madrid’s £34million valuation of the player. This is after Atletico rejected United’s opening £10million bid for the player back in June.

Diego Simeone is said to be happy with the 30-year-old, who was a crucial part of Atletico Madrid’s La Liga victory last season. Trippier provided 6 assists in 28 league games for the Spanish outfit last season before featuring for England at the Euros this summer, as they lost in the final to Italy.

Manchester United are keen on signing the former Tottenham and Burnley man this summer, but given that Arsenal have also joined the race to sign the full-back, the Red Devils will have to up their offer and move fast if they hope to see Trippier in a United shirt by the end of the transfer window.
