Transfer News: Eduardo Camavinga likely to stay at Rennes amid Manchester United interest

According to Sport Witness (h/t Express), Eduardo Camavinga is likely to stay at Rennes this summer with Manchester United yet to make contact over a possible transfer.

United have been linked with the 18-year-old midfielder for a while now, along with PSG and Arsenal. Foot Mercato (h/t Express) even went on to suggest that his agent would like to bring the youngster to Old Trafford.

The report mentions that United’s interest in Camavinga stems from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s possible switch to a 4-3-3 next season. With Declan Rice deemed too expensive, the club looked for alternatives.

But a move for the teenager now looks improbable and he can stay at the club which he helped finish 6th in Ligue 1 last season. It’s a blow for the Red Devils because he is a player that Solskjaer could have used in the short as well as long term.

No deal for Eduardo?

With Paul Pogba’s future perpetually up in the air, Camavinga would have put a layer of security over United’s midfield. And at 18, it is amazing to envisage what his prime years would be like.

The France international is in the final year of his contract that expires in the summer of 2022. But there is nothing to suggest in the report if he renews his deal at Roazhon Park or opts to leave on a free transfer next year.

Catalan giants Barcelona have entered the race to land Manchester United target Leon Goretzka.
Pogba to leave United this summer?

As of now, the Red Devils house a decent line-up in midfield and while a move for Camavinga would have been a solid piece of business, failure to sign him should not derail United’s optimism and expectations for the new season.

And if Pogba stays for at least another year, there is nothing to suggest right now that United would feel the absence of a new midfielder during this campaign.
