Manchester United undecided on new deal or sale for Jesse Lingard

According to Mirror, Manchester United appear to be undecided on the future of Jesse Lingard. It is understood that some people behind the scenes believe that he should be handed a new deal to aid his transfer value. Others are of the opinion to sell him as the time seems right.

After falling down the pecking order under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Lingard sought a way out of the club. He moved across to London on loan to West Ham for the second half of last season. Even the most ardent fans would not have expected the impact he had at the club in just five months.

The 28-year-old enjoyed an excellent loan spell with the London side during that time. He averaged close to a goal contribution per game and almost pushed them towards Champions League qualification. His blitzing form at West Ham meant that there was a chance he could be pushed back into Solskjaer’s side. However, those behind the scenes at the club are still in an impasse over what to do. Some want to renew his contract to protect his transfer value whereas other feel that it’s the right time to cash in. United are said to be asking for £30million for Lingard.

Despite missing out on the call-up to the Euros, his stock remains high and we could fetch a reasonable fee for him this summer. United could do with some cash in-flow from a player who might not feature that frequently if he stayed. Those incoming funds could then be used for further signings.
