Manchester United will need to fork out over £150,000-a-week wages for Declan Rice

According to Eurosport, Manchester United will have to offer in excess of £150,000-a-week in wages to land West Ham United star Declan Rice.

With Jadon Sancho in the bag, United are now in a position to focus their attentions elsewhere. A defensive midfielder and a centre-back are amongst Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s targets. The player being eyed in midfield is none other than Rice. (h/t The Guardian)

One of the best young players in the English top-flight, the Hammers ace is emerging as a consistent player in the Premier League. Capable of playing both in midfield and defence, Rice’s versatility will be a welcome addition to the Red Devils.

Rice has now put United on alert after rejecting two contract offers from West Ham. He is also expected to reject any more imminent attempts by West Ham to extend his stay in London. This has put the likes of United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City on alert.

The clubs have already been informed by people acting on behalf of the player that he would consider leaving London. As things stand, Chelsea are the favourites to land the midfielder. Not only did he come through the Blues academy but the Londoners are also in a position to afford the English international.

West Ham do not want to lose Rice and believe he is now worth more than the £70million tag they set earlier. Winning the Euros with England could very well see that price rise further.

In addition to the wages, it will also take a substantial signing on fee to sign the player. Rice is currently outside the top five earners at West Ham. While the Hammers have offered him a raise, it still pales in comparison to what he can earn elsewhere. (h/t The Telegraph)

If anything, Rice’s dominant performance in the 2-0 win over Germany at the Euros has only strengthened his reputation as a top-class player. He has so far made 145 appearances for the Hammers, scoring five goals and assists apiece. (h/t Transfermarkt)
