Duncan Castles: Paul Pogba ready to swap Manchester United for Real Madrid

Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast (h/t Sport Review), Duncan Castles has made a stunning revelation regarding the future of Manchester United star Paul Pogba.

The 28-year-old is enjoying a brilliant Euros where he has been one of France’s best performers. It would be fair to claim that Pogba has upped his game for both club and country since the turn of the year.

This will be both good and bad news for United going into the new campaign. The midfielder has a little over a year left on his contract and is yet to commit his future to the club. While it could increase interest from other clubs in his services, his performances could also boost his asking price this summer.

While there are concerns that he could walk on a free next year, Castles has revealed that Pogba is ready to seek new pastures this summer itself. He goes on to add that superagent Mino Raiola is working on a deal that will take his client to Real Madrid. Whether that comes to pass remains to be seen.

“Pogba wants to leave and wants to play for Real Madrid. If he can get that deal in place – and Raiola has been doing work to try and get that deal in place – he would take it.”

The exit of Zinedine Zidane has somewhat reduced the Spanish giant’s interest in the player. That does not appear to be a deal-breaker and Madrid’s interest does not appear to be non-existent.

“The chances of that happening have reduced now that Zinedine Zidane has left Real Madrid and [Carlo] Ancelotti is in place there.”

Advantage Pogba!

Both Pogba and Raiola are well aware of the advantage they hold when it comes to negotiations with United. Waiting for another year before moving on a free could very well land them a lucrative payday.

“They have option to run down to zero and leave and take their chances under freedom of contract to get the biggest deal possible.”

Pogba revealed last week no agreement had been settled with United yet. However, that may not be far away, and the early noises between both camps have so far been positive. This will be good news for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is keen to keep hold of his star player. (h/t The Sun)

Manchester United are now ready to offer Pogba a new contract worth £400,000-a-week for the next five years. This will make him the club’s top earner. Accepting the deal will ensure that the French ace will spend the prime of his career at Old Trafford. (h/t The Sun)

While securing Pogba’s future is something that will be welcome, it will be for nought unless we can get the best out of him.
