Manchester United planning contract negotiations with star midfielder Paul Pogba

According to ESPN, Manchester United are worried that Paul Pogba will run down his contract and leave for free next year.

The French international is the Red Devils’ record signing, having returned to the club in 2016. While he has had his moments, they have been few and far between.

To his credit, the 28-year-old has put in an excellent showing since the turn of the year, adding our title push and run to the Europa League final. With just a year to go on his current deal, United have a major decision to make this summer.

United fear Pogba will run down his deal and are ready to begin negotiations. This summer is United’s last chance to receive a significant fee for the midfielder.

However, there has been no firm contact from any of Europe’s major clubs. It is doubtful if the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona or Juventus can afford to fork out the cash needed.

The situation will change dramatically if he is available for free. French giants Paris Saint-Germain hope to take advantage of that next year.

Raiola and United are not the best of friends

The thorn in our side?

Superagent Mino Raiola doesn’t really have the best relationship with United, adding another layer to our negotiations for Pogba. Raiola has shown this summer that he is not against having his clients run down their deals, as seen with Gianluigi Donnarumma.

United should do all they can to ensure we aren’t taken for a ride. Pogba is worth his weight in gold and losing him for a free would be a bitter pill to swallow.

Pogba is keen to challenge for top trophies but United have so far offered him scant opportunities. Talks with United, set to take place after the European Championship, are likely to focus on the club’s plan to bridge the gap with Manchester City and the rest of Europe’s elite.
