Manchester United can sign Ruben Neves for a bargain £35million

According to The Athletic (Subscription Required), Manchester United could potentially land Wolverhampton Wanderers star Ruben Neves for around £35million.

The 24-year-old joined the club from Porto in 2017 and has since helped them develop from a Championship side to Premier League regulars. With the Nuno Espirito Santo era now coming to an end, it would appear a few changes in the playing staff is also in order.

Diogo Jota and Matt Doherty both left the club last summer. It could very well be Neves’ turn this time around.

Neves is an excellent set-piece taker

Both Manchester United and Liverpool have followed the player’s progress for some time now. The Merseysiders in particular are in need of replacing Georginio Wijnaldum whose contract is up this summer.

A tidy player with an eye for a pass, Neves will be an excellent addition in the middle of the park for United. While both Fred and Scott McTominay have done a decent job, both lack the attacking acumen when it comes to contributing to the attack.

A much more mobile player with an eye for goal, Neves could offer us something different in the middle of the park.

Neves is a proven talent in the Premier League

Wolves previously valued Neves closer to £50m. With them now demanding a lower fee, it remains to be seen if United will rekindle their interest.

The summer transfer window is a pivotal one for the Red Devils. They are keen to address a number of positions, especially that of a striker and a centre-back.

While strengthening the midfield may not rank very high in priority, it has to be seen if Neves’ availability will lead to us redrawing our plans. In Neves, United could land themselves a player with Premier League experience with leadership abilities to boot.
