Manchester United to offer Jesse Lingard in part exchange for Harry Kane
According to The Athletic (Subscription Required), Manchester United could tempt Tottenham into selling star striker Harry Kane by adding Jesse Lingard as a makeweight.
The Red Devils have been long term admirers of the English skipper. Kane is enjoying a fine season where he leads the club in both goals scored and assists made in the Premier League.
Despite tying down Edinson Cavani to a new deal, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to bring in more competition within his squad. A player of Kane’s ability will not just bring in competition but will give us a genuine world-class option up front.
Any attempt to land Kane will not be easy, thanks to Daniel Levy. The Spurs chairman is a tough man to deal with and will seek top dollar for his star man.
According to the report, the Red Devils are hoping to offer Jesse Lingard as bait in order to ease Tottenham’s stance. The 28-year-old is no Harry Kane but has wowed spectators with his performances on loan at West Ham United.
Lingard has adapted well to life in London and has so far scored nine goals and made three assists in just 14 appearances for the Hammers. The United loanee also won April’s Premier League player of the month and goal of the month awards.
Will it be enough?
Lingard’s stock is on the up given his form and United are keen to cash in on him this summer. With just a year to go on his current deal, it is now or never for the Red Devils.
Whether this is enough to sway Levy’s mind remains to be seen. He does not have the best relationship with United following the sale of Dimitar Berbatov in 2008.
Levy has since blocked Luka Modric and Gareth Bale from moving to Old Trafford. Whether he will stick to his guns regarding Kane remains to be seen. (h/t The Express)
