Manchester United News: Joel Glazer opens up on the club’s involvement in the European Super League

According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United co-chairman Joel Glazer has shed light on the club’s participation in the European Super League.

The Red Devils are among 12 clubs, six of them English who have agreed to join the Super League. This news has been met with widespread criticism from both former players and fans.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was questioned about the news in his psot-match presser against Burnley. The Norwegian however played it cool and refused to divulge any information.

United also failed to respond to requests for any comment when news of the Super League broke on Sunday. Executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward was also not in attendance for their 3-1 Premier League win over Burnley. The club’s director of communications was also conspicuous with his absence.

Glazer, Real Madrid honcho Florentino Perez and Juventus president Andrea Agnelli were the only figures quoted in the statement. The United chief believes that the ESL opens up a new chapter in European football and brings with it top-level infrastructure and competition.

“By bringing together the world’s greatest clubs and players to play each other throughout the season, the Super League will open a new chapter for European football, ensuring world-class competition and facilities, and increased financial support for the wider football pyramid.”

Money talks!

Joel Glazer has not directly communicated to United supporters since his introductory interview with MUTV in May 2005. The takeover burdened the club with hundreds of millions in debts, something that is yet to be paid off.

Neither the FA nor UEFA have taken kindly to the announcement and have promised to fight it all the way. A victory for the duo could see the 12 clubs involved pay heavily for their actions.

One way or another, United do not come out of this looking good.
