Two scenarios that would enable Lazio buy Andreas Pereira from Manchester United

Lazio could still purchase Manchester United loanee Andreas Pereira

A report by Italian outlet, Il Tempo (h/t Sport Witness), mentions the two scenarios which could make Lazio consider a permanent transfer for Manchester United loanee, Andreas Pereira.

The Brazilian midfielder joined Lazio on loan last summer because he was not in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s immediate plans at Old Trafford. But his time in Serie A is not going as well as he would expect it to go.

He has made just 2 league starts for Simone Inzaghi’s side as he fails to find a place in his starting XI. He has played all over the pitch in different positions and it seems like the club is not sure of what his best position is.

His loan deal currently has a clause whereby the Rome-based side could purchase him permanently for €27million in the summer. That sum is regarded as ‘extortionate by the club because of how less they have used the 25-year-old this season.

Transfer still in the balance

Things change, however. And there are still two possible situations that can force the Italian side to reconsider their current stance on Pereira and go for a permanent move in the summer.

The first scenario is if Inzaghi manages to use the former PSV Eindhoven prospect in the closing stages of the season and he can prove that he meets the expectations of a club with Champions League aspirations.

And secondly, it can happen if the Red Devils lower their asking price for Pereira who is not seen as a part of the club’s ‘technical project’. The Brazilian made 18 league starts for the club in his most recent season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

But it seems as if United do not really miss him as they continue to have a successful season. The club sits pretty in 2nd in the league and are in the last-8 of the UEFA Europa League.
