Transfer News: Solskjaer admits Diogo Dalot will return to Manchester United in the summer

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has some good news for birthday boy Diogo Dalot on the transfer front.

The defender who turns 22 today, is currently on a season-long loan at AC Milan. He has enjoyed a mixed time in the Italian capital and could feature against us in the Europa League later tonight.

According to The Mirror, the Norwegian has backed Dalot to have a bright future at Old Trafford. He went on to admit that it is a joy to watch the youngster do well.

“The plan was always for Diogo this season, or the main thing for Diogo, was to be fit.”

Diogo Dalot could yet have a future at Manchester United

Dalot made just 35 appearances for United in his two full seasons at the club. During this time, he scored once and assisted thrice. In the months since, he has already garnered 22 appearances for Milan, scoring two goals and assists apiece. (h/t Transfermarkt)

A major reason for the 22-year-old limited opportunities at United was his poor fitness record. Thankfully, he has enjoyed better fortune at the San Siro.

“He never managed to be fit for a long spell when he was here [and was] unfortunate with injuries.”

With a return appearing to be on the cards, Dalot can breathe easy. Speculation has hounded him all season and while Solskjaer’s words aren’t set in stone, it offers promise.

“He’s our player and we’re looking forward to having him back.”

The switch to Milan is a purely temporary one with no provision to make it permanent. United hold all the aces when it comes to negotiations and look set to welcome back the player in the summer.

Dalot did reasonably well for Milan in the first leg at Old Trafford. While we wish him a happy birthday, we hope he has one to forget tonight. Former United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic is also in line to feature for Milan tonight.
