Transfer News: Man United do not appear to be in the running for this world-class European star

Manchester United appear to be out of the race for David Alaba

Manchester United were one of the clubs linked with a move for Bayern Munich star David Alaba.

The 28-year-old is out of contract in the summer and is available for free. Currently, in his prime, he was bound to garner the attention of Europe’s top clubs.

Capable of playing a variety of positions, the Austrian would have added much to the United squad. Unfortunately, it does not appear as the club is still in running for his signature.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Alaba’s next destination appears to be Real Madrid. The player has already reached a verbal agreement with the Spanish giants ahead of the summer switch.

Los Blancos are working on a pre-contract agreement that will see the player stay at the Bernabeu until 2025. While the contract is almost ready, it is yet to be signed.

There are still teams such as Chelsea and Liverpool, who are looking to steal him from under Real’s noses. United, however, do not appear to be amongst them.

A fight on our hands!

The Red Devils are keen to bring in a central defender in the summer. However, given our performances at the back so far, we would need more than one.

Another player linked with a move to Old Trafford was Dayot Upamecano. The RB Leipzig star has since agreed to join Bayern Munich, forcing us to look elsewhere.

The Red Devils have also been linked with Ibrahima Konate and Jules Kounde. However, we will have to face competition for both players and will not have a clear road at signing them.

More Manchester United News

With a number of teams keen on strengthening their defence in the summer, United face a challenge on their hands to land their top targets.

It remains to be seen if we will show the acumen and desire to go head to head for these players. Not doing so will be foolish given common knowledge of our defensive frailties.
