Transfer News: Man United loanee could be set for Old Trafford return after recent criticism

Serie A giants AS Roma seemingly remain keen on landing Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot this summer,

Diogo Dalot draws flak ahead of potential Manchester United return

According to the Daily Star, Manchester United loanee, Diogo Dalot could be on his way back to the club from AC Milan next summer.

The 21-year-old joined the Italian giants last summer on a season-long loan. He has since made 18 appearances for Rossoneri, scoring once and assisting twice. (h/t Transfermarkt)

He has, however, failed to impress and once again put in a substandard performance against Spezia. Playing at right-back, Dalot was often caught out of position as the Serie A giants fell to a surprise 2-0 loss.

Dalot was caught out and could only watch on in horror as Matteo Ricci glided past him and squared for Giulio Maggiore to tap home for the opener. The loss saw Milan get overtaken to the top spot by arch-rivals Inter Milan.

The Portuguese starlet’s performance was ripped to shred by an unforgiving Italian media. Various sources (h/t Daily Star), gave the defender a minimal rating for his role in the loss.

According to the report, Milan do not have the option to make Dalot’s deal permanent in the summer. If this performance is anything to go by, there is little reason to demand such an option.

Diogo Dalot is likely to return to Manchester United once his loan spell at AC Milan ends.
Dalot was a peripheral player at United

Dalot is not the first-choice right-back at the San Siro. That distinction belongs to Davide Calabria. Things aren’t that different at United with both Aaron Wan-Bissaka and even Brandon Williams ahead of him in the pecking order.

The move to Milan was an opportunity for Dalot to rekindle his career. As things stand, it appears to have backfired.

With him failing to impress, Dalot faces an uncertain future. United are interested in bringing in a new right-back in the summer and have identified Max Aarons and Kieran Trippier as potential targets. (h/t Express)

It remains to be seen how Dalot fares for the remainder of the season and also how it impacts his future.
