Ole Gunnar Solskjaer backs Anthony Martial to return to his best at Manchester United

According to the Mirror, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has backed misfiring Manchester United striker Anthony Martial to rediscover his best form.

The Frenchman enjoyed his most prolific season last time around. He scored 23 goals as United made it to the top four and also to three major semifinals. This saw him win the Players’ Player of the Season award for 2019/20.

“We know he’s going to come out with the performances in the end.”

He has failed to replicate that form this time around and has managed a mere seven goals in 29 appearances across all competitions. Of these four have come in 19 Premier League appearances.

Martial started Sunday’s trip to the Hawthorns but was taken off in the 66th minute after yet another limp display. Speaking after the game, Solskjaer revealed that Martial is doing his best to get back to top form.

“I know Anthony is working hard to get back to where he was.”

The 25-year-old has his manager’s backing. As a striker himself, Solskjaer will be well aware of both purple patches and dry spells. The Norwegian has no doubt regarding the player’s attitude and insists he will come good.

“His attitude is very good. Form is sometimes temporary but class is permanent and the kid has got class.”

Anthony Martial has struggled to impress this season

Martial arrived at United as one of the best talents in Europan football. He hit the ground running with a solo effort against Liverpool and looked destined for the top.

Things have, however, not gone as expected and Martial has only shown fleeting glimpses of his potential. At 25, he still, has time on his side and will hopefully go on to prove Ole a prophet.

Martial’s form has seen Edinson Cavani usurp him as the first-choice striker. United will need the Frenchman to step up and be counted as the season nears the business end. Martial could yet redeem himself for the remainder of the campaign.
