Solskjaer wants his Manchester United team to challenge referee decisions on the field

Speaking before the game against Southampton (h/t Manchester Evening News), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer stated that he wants his Manchester United squad to make ‘fuss’ about the decisions given by the referee on the field.

United have had some tough luck with refereeing calls lately, none more than in their 2-1 loss against Sheffield United. The Blades scored their opener from a corner in the 23rd minute through Kean Bryan.

Later on, a goal by Anthony Martial was disallowed because Harry Maguire was deemed to have fouled Aaron Ramsdale in the build-up the goal.

Maguire’s push on Ramsdale seemed much less severe than Billy Sharp’s push on David de Gea that lead to Sheffield United’s opener. And now, a match delegator’s report reveals that Bryan’s goal should not have counted.

Moreover, the report also states that Martial’s goal should have stood. In light of this, Solskjaer believes that United players are not making enough noise about the dicey refereeing decisions on the field.

“Maybe we should have made more of a fuss about it. We are a bunch of nice lads.

He says that his players should have pressured the referee into revising the two controversial moments against the Blades before play resumed. And he adds that the narrative that referees favour United is false.

“There has been a narrative for too long about the decisions we have got for us and I can look at many decisions this season that we feel [went against us].”

Nevertheless, he does not want his players to put too much “unfair pressure” on the referees. But he still believes that the Martial’s equaliser was a ‘clear and obvious’ error by the referee and should have stood.
