Phil Jones added to Manchester United squad for the remainder of the Premier League season
A report by Manchester Evening News confirms that Phil Jones has been added to the Manchester United squad for the second half of the 2020/21 Premier League season.
The 28-year-old was a regular fixture in the first few months of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s reign at United. He featured in all of the Norwegian’s first 8 games in charge of the club in 2018-19.
However, he was soon out of favour. Jones played just 2 league games last season, and is yet to play for the club in well over a year. But, the club have still included him in their squad for this season.
He was earlier sidelined with a knee injury since June. This is probably the reason why he was left out of the league squad in the first place when the new campaign started.
Handy addition
Solskjaer says that he empathizes with Jones as he too has suffered serious injuries during his playing days.
“It’s the worst thing for a football player. When you have injuries that take your passion away and take your chance to play football away.”
The United boss adds that Jones is a quality player that he is looking forward to have in the squad again.
“Phil has been a top centre-back. He was brilliant when I came in, so I want him back into the squad as quick as I can.”
Jones is expected to be put on the transfer list come the end of the season. However, he could still have a big role to play in United’s hunt for silverware. (h/t Manchester Evening News)
