Manchester United star Edinson Cavani opens up on his iconic goal celebration
Experience and ability aren’t just the gifts that Edinson Cavani has brought to Manchester United. The Uruguayan also came with a trademark goal celebration that stands out.
The 33-year-old kneels and fires an imaginary arrow each time he scores for club or country.
Speaking to the United Review (h/t The Mirror), the player has now opened up on the secret behind the celebration. The origins of his celebration are related to the Charruas, an indigenous Uruguayan population.
“It’s a bit of a long story and it’s kind of wrapped up in our country’s history, and the indigenous population, the Charruas.”
Cavani’s celebration is a celebration of the player’s daughter, India, and the Charruas. It is a celebration that has grown familiar to fans over the last decade.
“That arrow that I take out and then fire, is a goal celebration that sort of encapsulates all these things: a mix of my daughter’s name and the indigenous peoples of my country.”
Signed on a free in the summer, Cavani has emerged as a shrewd piece of signing. He has made a number of goals that could go a long way in helping us win the 21st league title.
Cavani has earned rave reviews from both Paul Pogba and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. A serial winner with PSG, he will hopefully replicate the same at United.
If he continues to impress, the archer celebration will become a regular staple at Old Trafford.
