Inter Milan in talks with Manchester United target Lautaro Martinez over fresh terms
According to reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Inter Milan are in talks with Lautaro Martinez to extend his contract, amidst Manchester United interest.
The Nerazzurri have already met with the representatives of both Martinez and Alessandro Bastoni. While the latter is closing in on a new five-year deal, talks with the former continue.
This could give United a small frame of window to make a move for the player before a new deal is agreed upon.
United were linked with a move for the 23-year-old just last summer. The Argentine star has so far made 25 appearances this season, scoring 10 times and assisting five more. (h/t Transfermarkt)
A mobile, pacy player, Martinez is one of the best young talents in Europe. Signing him would be nothing short of a coup for United.
The striker’s current contract has a release clause worth £98.9m. Barcelona were also keen on Martinez in the summer but Inter were unwilling to negotiate on the release clause.
While Edinson Cavani has added strength in depth to the United frontline, he is not a long-term option. At 33, the Uruguayan is in the final years of his career.
Moreover, Anthony Martial has failed to reproduce his numbers from the previous season. The Frenchman has not developed as expected and maybe sold if the continues to disappoint. (h/t MEN)
All this can see us enter the market for a new striker. At 23, Martinez is both young and skilled enough to become a long-term solution. Whether Untied still retain an interest in securing his services remains to be seen.

Martinez has all the makings of a potential world-class forward. Making a move for him after he signs a new deal will see Inter negotiate from a position of strength.
Throwing a dagger into the works by expressing our interest is something the club should explore.
