Bruno Fernandes equals Eric Cantona’s assist record for Manchester United
According to The Mirror, Bruno Fernandes has equalled a record tally managed by Manchester United icon Eric Cantona.
The Portuguese international was awarded a rather fortuitous assist for Edinson Cavani’s equalizer against Fulham. This took his tally to 15 assists in just 33 Premier League games for United. (h/t The Mirror)
The feat was not managed by any other player other than Cantona and former West Ham United star Dimitri Payet. Fernandes truly is in elite company.
Fernandes has been in brilliant form this season. His 11 goals and nine assists in just 19 appearances have propelled United to the top of the table. (h/t The Mirror)
The fact that he averages close to a goal contribution a game, playing from midfield is truly astounding. With plenty of games yet to come, he could add much more to his tally.
The assist against Fulham was the midfielder’s first goal contribution in three games. Given the demands of him, a lean patch was long incoming. Hopefully, he can shake it off and continue to add to his impressive numbers so far.
The 26-year-old has been United’s best player for the better part of a year. During this time, he has managed to win four Premier League Player of the Month awards – the first player to do so in a single year. (h/t The Daily Mail)
With an insatiable hunger for success, Fernandes will play a major role if we are to win trophies this season. Cantona led United to four Premier League titles during his five-year stay at the club. Hopefully, Fernandes will lead us to the 21st this season.
