Leeds United keen on Manchester United target Lucas Vazquez
According to Defensa Central via HITC (h/t Leeds Live), Leeds United have entered the race to Manchester United target Lucas Vazquez.
The 29-year-old has spent all of his career at Real Madrid, barring a single season out on loan at Espanyol. A three-time Champions League winner, he was a part of the Los Blancos side that dominated the competition.
With just six months left on his contract, Vazquez could leave for free in the summer.
A winger, Vazquez has enjoyed a new lease of life this season as a right-back. Real are keen to keep hold of him and are eager to tie him down to a new deal.
According to Spanish publication Marca (h/t Leeds Live), the Spaniard has already rejected Madrid’s first offer and is seeking a substantial pay rise.
United were linked with a move for the player back in December. The prospect of signing a proven, versatile player for free is not something to be ignored. Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa appears to be thinking along the same lines.
A different dimension
Aaron Wan-Bissaka is the first-choice right-back at Manchester United. Signing Vazquez will not just give us more strength in depth but also a different dimension to that offered by the Englishman.
Wan-Bissaka for all his defensive solidity is as good as a barndoor going forward. Vazquez can offer Ole Gunnar Solskjaer an attacking option at right-back.
United were keen to bring in a right-winger in the summer but were unable to do so. While Vazquez is not going to be a world-class addition, he is more than capable of giving us a creative outlet down the right.

Vazquez has never played outside England before. However, the prospect of landing a player of his calibre for free could prove to be a shrewd move.
Whether United will go head to head against Bielsa to land Vazquez remains to be seen.
