Solskjaer keen to upgrade on Manchester United ace Anthony Martial with Erling Haaland
According to the Express, Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to upgrade on Anthony Martial with Erling Braut Haaland.
The Frenchman enjoyed his prolific season at United last time around. His numbers saw him voted Manchester United Players’ Player of the Year award.
However, he has failed to hit the same heights this season and has lost his edge in front of the goal. With just five goals in 19 games so far this season, Martial is far from the infallible scorer we want to lead the line.
In Haaland, Solskjaer could sign the very definition of an infallible scorer. The 20-year-old has 33 goals and six assists in just 33 appearances for Borussia Dortmund.
The reigning Golden Boy winner, Haaland can be a game-changing signing for United. Solskjaer is a fan of his countryman and managed him during his time at Molde.
United have been long term admirers of the player. Their efforts to land him last January came to nothing as Haaland opted to move to the Bundesliga instead.
Given the player’s burgeoning reputation, United are unlikely to have a free run at landing the player. Haaland has also attracted attention from Real Madrid and Manchester City.
The former sees him as a replacement for Karim Benzema while the latter wants him to succeed Sergio Aguero. (h/t The Express)
Haaland is believed to have a £70m release clause that kicks in next summer. While it is nowhere close to a bargain, the financial risk is far outweighed by the potential results on the pitch.
Another issue United could have in landing Halland is having to deal with Mino Raiola. The superagent, who also represents Paul Pogba, managed to rub the club the wrong way with his comments earlier in the season.

Haaland is clearly a much better striker than Martial. The Norwegian’s potential is very high and could turn into an elite-level player the way he is going.
Whether we can convince him that his future lies at Old Trafford remains to be seen.
