Manchester United fans call for Jesse Lingard sale after Norwich City performance
Manchester United fans have taken to Twitter to voice their unhappiness over Jesse Lingard.
The 27-year-old made his first start for United since March in the FA Cup quarter-final against Norwich City. It proved to be a disappointing day as the midfielder failed to make any sort of impact on the left flank.
With just two goals and two assists in 36 appearances, the United star has enjoyed a rather subdued season at Old Trafford.
It has been a tough season off the field as well. He has admitted that focus was a problem before Christmas given the family illness that has seen him looking after younger siblings as well as his one-year-old daughter. (h/t Guardian)
It is understandable that concerns off the field are likely to have affected his form. The calls for him to be sold are jarring for a player who was just two years ago starring in the World Cup and the UEFA Nations League.
With the Red Devils looking to take the next step up, there could be no place for Lingard in the team. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has remained coy on the 27-year-old’s future. If he fails to perform, Solskjaer will have no option but to let him go.
Lingard was never the best player, but he was a decent one who could do a job. It is a fact that he is not performing at the moment. But the insults he has been garnering online will do little to encourage him.
Whether his future lies at Untied or not, he at the very least deserved to be treated with respect. Ridiculing one of our own is not a trait United fans should be proud of.
We take a look at some of United fans’ tweets below.

#footballlive Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, Pereira, even Chong… Names that pop up when United wants to do a squad rotation. Considering the talents of Angel Gomes, are Manchester United not looking the wrong way?

I’d have Ozil over Lingard, the man literally offers nothing. Any north lancs footballer could of done mote than lingard did yesterday – he ran around looking clueless

It blows my mind that Jesse Lingard is 27 years old and somehow still playing for United.

One thing we can all agree on, it’s goodbye Jesse Lingard whenever the transfer window is open. He’s gone, fini, the end. His performance so far and this game as a whole is a horrible reminder of the sort of football we’ve had to get used to watching in recent years. pic.twitter.com/qSSxpe9geN
