Jesse Lingard could be on his way to Italy

According to the Independent, Manchester United star Jesse Lingard could be on his way to the Serie A.

The 27-year-old has endured a difficult season at Old Trafford. He has managed just two goals and two assists and has started just over 18 of the 35 games he has played in. (h/t Transfermarkt)

He is in constant touch with Chris Smalling and Ashley Young, both of whom are now plying their trade in Italy.

Lingard has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford in recent months. Having enjoyed an excellent outing for England at the 2018 World Cup, he has failed to carry that form back to United.

In spite of being given numerous opportunities by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, he has failed to replicate his best form. This led to him being dropped amidst reports that he would be sold if the price was right. (h/t Express)

Lingard will not be the first United player to move to Italy in recent years. The nation has proven to be somewhat of a favoured destination for a number of Red Devils.

The likes of Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez, Chris Smalling, and Ashley Young have all enjoyed varying levels of success in Serie A. Lingard could soon join that list.

Lingard has been at United since 2000. Having come up through the youth ranks, he made his first-team debut in 2014. A versatile player, he has now made 202 appearances for the club and has scored 21 goals and 20 assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Lingard is represented by superagent Mino Raiola. The Italian-born Dutchman represents some of the best players on the planet.

A number of his players have had trust in Italy. This could very well work in Lingard’s favour.

The 27-year-old has been a decent player who has scored a few crucial goals for United. However, he has failed to keep up as the club evolves with time.
