Manchester United can arrange friendlies before PL kicks off on June 17
According to MEN, Premier League clubs including Manchester United have been given permission to hold friendlies before the season commences.
With almost three months since our last competitive game, players are short of match fitness.
Although training has started with gusto, players will need to be able to perform in the setting of a match for plays to be effective.
Given that two of our stars Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba are returning from injury, it is imperative that we bring them up to scratch on preparations.
With friendlies now on the table, we will be able to not only be match fit but also try out new tactics and build rhythm.
Unlike in the past, conducting friendlies is not straightforward given the precautions being taken.
No team will be permitted to travel more than 90 minutes for a match. Also, players must travel in their own cars, while members of the coaching staff will officiate since referees are not allowed.
The friendlies can be played inside stadiums or at training grounds, which would be assessed for risks. Those involved would have had to have a negative result from coronavirus testing.
Championship sides have already received requests to play games against Premier League opposition. They too must follow the same guidelines. Full contact training for Championship clubs was approved on Monday evening.
Premier League clubs are expected to organize friendlies for the forthcoming weekend. Leicester City will host Aston Villa at the King Power Stadium in one of those matches.
Liverpool too have stepped up training by organizing 11 vs 11 matches amongst their squad.
