The Independent (h/t Express) claims that Jose Mourinho’s job is still on the line, despite Manchester United dramatically beating Newcastle on Saturday.

The report adds that Mourinho would be meeting with the board this week to decide his future.

The manager’s job was on the line prior to the Newcastle game, according to the Express. However, the club moved quickly to rubbish rumours of Mourinho’s sacking.

The United manager even added that the board had warned him of the rumours and was quoted by the Express as saying:

“The ones that read the papers, that are connected with social media, they thought maybe I had gone.

“If I hadn’t had an SMS from my board not to read (the papers), I would have been convinced too.”

United haven’t started the season well with three losses already in the Premier League, so far. We have been knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Derby and recently played out a drab 0-0 against Valencia in the Champions League.

Mourinho’s future has been up for debate and Zinedine Zidane has been linked with the job at Old Trafford. The Frenchman left Real Madrid at the start of the season, despite winning three Champions League titles with them.
