Jose Mourinho made seven changes to the team after the shock loss at home to West Bromwich Albion. The boss had claimed that this was an opportunity for some players to secure a spot in the starting XI for the crucial FA Cup semi-final against Tottenham at the weekend but the performance wasn’t all that great, to be honest.
Only David de Gea, Chris Smalling, Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera were retained from last week while the likes of Luke Shaw, Matteo Darmian and Marouane Fellaini were given a start.
Smalling opened the scoring in the 28th minute before Romelu Lukaku ensured we got all the three points with a goal in the 70th minute.
The win kept us four points clear of Liverpool, who are in third place and also gives us a bit of a boost ahead of the FA Cup clash against Spurs.
There were numerous reactions on Twitter about the game and the performance. Here are some of the tweets we came across.
Lukaku has scored 27 goals in all competitions this season, more than he has ever managed in a single campaign. #MUFC pic.twitter.com/ca1KlCHHYo

When Phil Jones has played the full 90 minutes, we’ve kept 14 clean sheets in 20 Premier League games. When he hasn’t – 3 in 14.
Coincidence? I think not.

David De Gea has kept 21 clean sheets (in 41 apps, all comps) for Man Utd this season, a new career best for a single campaign (17 PL clean sheets, 3 more than any keeper)

Despite the many changes for United tonight, it was a very good performance. Over 90 minutes it was one of their better performances for a while. Certainly given Mourinho a bit of a selection headache ahead of the FA Cup semifinal #MUFC
