Manchester United Boosted In Their Chase For 4th Signing As Player Prefers United Over Spurs

Serge Aurier

Tottenham Hotspur could potentially miss out on signing Serge Aurier as the Ivory Coast international has been reported to be preferring a move to Manchester United.

The Paris Saint-Germain right-back has been a subject of intense speculation this summer as reports linking him with a move to England continued to hog the limelight. It was believed that the 24-year-old was close to joining Tottenham but Manchester United is his first choice, reports The Sun.

PSG’s Need To Sell

All this stems from the fact that PSG need to offload players. The arrival of Neymar for a world-record fee from Barcelona has resulted in a situation, where to satisfy Financial Fair Play regulations, the club must sell players. PSG has already prepared a list of players who can leave this summer.

Top of that expendable group is Aurier. The arrival of Dani Alves from Juventus on a free transfer has meant that the right-back is now down the pecking order and is not guaranteed of game time.

A switch to the Premier League was always on the cards as Tottenham and United were interested in signing the player.

United Surge Ahead

Tottenham were supposed to have the deal in place and were looking to get the legal wrangles sorted out before landing him. They are now set to be usurped in the race by the Red Devils, with the player interested in moving to Old Trafford.

It is believed that Paul Pogba has urged Jose Mourinho to make a move for the defender and strengthen the squad. Antonio Valencia has made the right-back position his own at United but Mourinho is looking to add players and increase competition.

It would be interesting to see where Aurier plays this season. His legal issues currently prohibit him from entering the United Kingdom but those are set to be cleared soon.

His agent is Pini Zahavi, who is good friends with Daniel Levy, and PSG are keen for the player to go to Tottenham. However, his personal preference is to move to United and all this makes some interesting reading before the transfer window ends on Thursday.

Do you think Serge Aurier would be a good addition to Manchester United this season?
