Manchester United to Resume Luke Shaw Talks: Why It’s A Good Decision

Despite veteran defender Patrice Evra signing a one year contract extension, United are still looking for a long-term replacement for the Frenchman. It seems to be Luke Shaw.

BBC Sport reports that Manchester United will look to resume talks with Shaw’s representatives while the player is away with the national team.

Southampton have already knocked back a bid from United, estimated to be around £27 million which would make him the second most expensive defensive transfer in the Premier League behind Rio Ferdinand.

Southampton are certainly getting their star players pinched after a fantastic season, which saw them finished eighth in the Premier League.

Striker Rickie Lambert is on the verge of joining Liverpool and there is talk of Captain Adam Lallana joining up with former the Saints manager Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham.

Luke Shaw at 18 years-old is seen as the long-term heir to Ashley Cole’s left-back spot, but right now, Leighton Baines has certainly earned his chance.

Getting Evra to sign an extension is a big help to incoming manager Louis van Gaal as he won’t be left with a completely new defence to who haven’t been starters in the Premier League.

But although United seem to be struggling to sign big names from the top European clubs, there is certainly still a big attraction for young English players to play in the ‘Theatre of Dreams’.
